Hi, there! My name is Ann and I’m glad you’re here!

That’s me in the video up there. I’m a full-time firefighter based in the Seattle area and it is an honor and a privilege to serve. Despite my current occupation my first love was actually baking! I’ve been working in commercial bakeries since I was 17 years old, when I had my first job at Holly B’s Bakery in the San Juan Islands. After Holly B’s, I attended Washington State University (go Cougs!), where I earned a B.A. in Hospitality Business Management, thinking I would open my own bakery someday. Post-college graduation, I managed Pure Bliss Desserts in Bellingham, WA for about 3 years. Both Holly B’s and Pure Bliss have heavily influenced my dessert style, and throughout it all I’ve maintained a passion for small, local business, high-quality ingredients, and community involvement. 11 years after my professional baking journey started, I’m now a career firefighter! Funny how life turns out, huh?

I’m often asked if I’ll eventually leave firefighting for baking and the answer is an adamant “no!” Both firefighting and baking are work that my soul loves and I feel fortunate to be able to do both. Not many people can say they get to save lives and bake cakes! I love the dichotomy and the idea that people, particularly women, can be or do whatever they want, no matter how “conflicting” those things may be by society’s standards. Also, one of my favorite parts of owning Hook & Batter Co. is making special desserts for my loved ones, which includes my fire family. It is an honor to serve them in this way.

When I’m not baking or at the firehouse, I enjoy spending time with my dogs and cat, growing as much of my own food as possible, cooking, drinking coffee/beer/wine, working out, reading, riding on the back of my boyfriend’s motorcycle, and learning to play the bagpipes."
