How much advance notice do you need for orders?

The sooner the better! Since my full-time job and #1 priority is firefighting, I often need to work orders around my shift schedule. With that being said, it never hurts to ask about last-minute orders. I can sometimes accommodate very short notice. And I promise I don’t bite!

What forms of payment do you accept?

I can take cash, check (make them out to “Hook & Batter Company”), or Venmo (my username is @hookandbatterco) payments. Here’s a link to set up a Venmo account if you don’t have one already. It’s easy! I require payment in full prior to order completion.

How should I store and serve my cake?

I have pre-chilled your cake for stable and secure transportation reasons. I recommend that you do the same and refrigerate your cake up until about 3-4 hours prior to enjoying. At that point, bring your dessert out so that it can come to room temperature—the Swiss Meringue Buttercream tastes best when warm!

How do I place an order?

Do you offer special décor and themed designs for cakes?

Yes. However, intricate fondant work and very specific or detailed piped designs are not my specialty. I prefer to focus on delicious, high-quality cakes with simple, classic, and beautiful design. Pictures are super helpful for me to get an idea of what you’re looking for. Special designs do incur extra charges, starting at $5 and increasing based on complexity.

Whoa! Your cakes are expensive! (Do you offer discounts?)

Yes, yes they are, especially when compared to a sheetcake you could easily find at Costco. However, I firmly believe that my cakes are expensive because they are worth it. Real, high-quality ingredients go into each of my creations, including nothing but eggs, butter, and sugar in my Swiss Meringue Buttercream, and locally-grown and –milled flour that I pick up myself in the Skagit Valley in my cakes. I make all of my batter, frosting, ganache, and fillings in small batches, to order, by hand. Each one of your orders is truly custom-made and I handle the entire process from order-taking to delivery. Trust me, the price tag is worth it.

With that being said, I do offer a 10% discount to all firefighters, law enforcement officers, and past or present military personnel. Thank you for your service, sisters and brothers.

Do you make gluten-free cakes?

I have lovely recipes for both chocolate and carrot gluten-free cakes. However, I do not recommend these for anyone with a serious gluten allergy or Celiac Disease, as I also frequently work with regular flour in the same spaces and on the same equipment. While I do my very, very best to clean and sanitize in between batches, I cannot guarantee a completely sterile environment.
